Green Goddess Smoothie

I would love to eat perfectly 24 hours a day! But the truth of the matter is, I don’t. I am a sucker for anything with cheese… cheesy nachos, cheese and crackers… heck, cover a shoe in cheese and I just might eat it! And we all know how bad cheese or processed food is for us, but dang it! How do we steer clear from its gooey powers?

Well, that’s where the 75/25 comes into play. As long as the majority of the time (75%) you are consuming fresh, live, wholesome and organic foods, a little slip-up here and there is handled easier by your body! So I make sure I start the day right and get in a good portion of fresh fruits and veggies in the morning. That way, if my day ends with a few yummy finger foods, I don’t feel as awful as I would have otherwise!

So, how do I get all those vitamin and enzyme rich foods in? I make my Green Goddess Smoothie! In a blender, combine the following:

Banana: too many people are walking around deficient in potassium and don’t even know it!

Kale: excellent source of antioxidant vitamins A, C and K. Throw in as much as you’d like, but at least 2 cups worth.

Celery: this has boat loads of fiber to fill you up and keep you energized! Put in 4-5 stalks.

Fruit: adding half a cup of frozen blueberries or half a green apple will sweeten your smoothie and provide extra vitamins!

Flax Oil: I can’t stress to you how important healthy oils are for you! Add about 2 Tablespoons of this goodness.

Chia Seeds: these little guys pack a lot of punch! Add one Tablespoon.

Plant Based Protein Powder: I love Jarrow’s! Stay as far away from whey and soy protein as you can! Plant based protein is now your new best friend.

Cinnamon: This spice has far too many health benefits to list here. If you’re bored, google it. See for yourself. You’ll be amazed at it’s powers! Add about a teaspoon (more or less for taste)

Distilled Water: Add about a cup or so, depending if you like it a little more thick or not. Do not… I repeat… DO NOT use tap water for any reason (unless it first went through a filter of some sort). Don’t get me started on all the crap the water treatment plants put into our systems!

If you are ambitious, feel free to add more to the smoothie! I sometimes put in kelp powder, barley grass powder, psyllium seed husks (talk about FIBER!), vitamin C crystles, a green powder (I absolutely love Amazing Grass’s Superfood) and liquid chlorophyll.

Then just blend away and voila! That’s your first meal of the day!! Cheers!

XO, Shandi & Susie
