Susie and I decided to create Pageantology two years ago since we are so passionate about helping young women become their best selves (in pageantry and in life) through our training and guidance. However, we still juggle our 'regular day jobs' as well. In addition to the both of us working as tv hosts/personalities, I have been modeling in Los Angeles since moving to the city, shortly after passing on the Miss USA title. One of my favorite companies to work for is Magicsuit. I have been working with them for years but starting last year, they decided to take annual trips somewhere 'warm and sunny' to get the shots they needed without the hassle of overcast weather, which LA is often so familiar with. Last year, I had the privilege to spend a week in Cancun, shooting on the sandy beaches. This year, we visited Hautulco, Mexico.
It was so beautiful flying into the city! Surrounded by water, with a population of 50,000, Hualtuco (pronounced wah-TOOL-co) is a quiet, lazy, tropical town. It is located on the Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca. Until resort development began in the 1980s, Huatulco was little known except as a coffee-growing area.
This is a perfect place to do a photo shoot, as sunny days can be expected about 330 days a year with the average temperature of 82.4 degrees! Sounds like nirvana, right?
We stayed in the beautiful Camino Real Zaashila resort and I was fortunate to have a room that overlooked the pool and beach. If it wasn't for the bugs (and me being SUPER allergic to bug bites), I would have kept my glass door open at night to hear the ocean waves.
I was in heaven! To be staying on this beautiful resort... Spending my days basking in the sun... Getting pampered by the incredible crew that I've known and worked with for years (photog is the incredible Michael Voorheez along with his outstanding team and the client for Magicsuit is none other than Sandra Davidoff, the most amazing, feisty, sexy little lady you'd ever meet!)... Meeting my new iguana friend... Sipping on fresh coconut water that was just chopped down from the nearby tree that morning... And enjoying a cold cerveza while watching polka dancers do their thing at an evening festival... And this was my JOB? In one word... Blessed.
Here are a few of the pics from Magicsuit...
In closing... With all of the gorgeous shots that Michael captured during our time in Huatulco, my favorite photo of all was a candid that was taken the moment we were startled with a huge wave that unexpectedly crashed into us, shoving me against a rock. You can see by the expression on my face that I was quite surprised!
All in all, I feel incredibly blessed to be able to work with such an incredible team and have the opportunity to visit such gorgeous places for our shoots! Truthfully, none of this would have been possible without having so many doorways opened with the title of Miss USA. I feel beyond honored and grateful for every single opportunity I've had in the past 10 years since being Miss USA and this is exactly why Susie and I started Pageantology... in order to help other women live out their dream and use their title to achieve the life they want to live.
