DIY Brighter Hair Color

For years we've been adding organic apple cider vinegar to our water (it's good for digestion) but we never knew it was so great for hair color as well. Regardless of what the color actually is, we all have one goal when it comes to hair color; to keep it bright and fresh like you just stepped out of the salon.

According to John Masters, hair stylist and founder of John Masters Organics"Apple cider vinegar removes excess product built-up that can dull color, without stripping hair of its natural oils and helps seal the cuticle to lock in the color, too." Score! For someone like me who works in front of the camera and is always getting her hair done, this is music to my ears.

My hair is naturally curly so I love the versatility it gives me for different looks. I wear it both curly and straight, which is awesome, but unfortunately that means lots of processing and product built up.

Doing this treatment once every other week keeps my locks looking fresh for tv and red carpet appearances. Here's what to do:

1. Rinse your hair out with one part apple cider vinegar (I like Braggs) and two parts warm water.

2. Pour the mixture over your head in the shower after you shampoo, massage it into your hair for about a minute and then rinse it out.

That's it! How easy is that?

When you're done in the shower and have removed the excess water from your hair, message a little coconut oil into your scalp and through the ends of your hair for a nice leave-in conditioner. These are some of the coconut oils that I've used in the past and have loved.

There are a million different uses for coconut oil too so don't stop with your hair and explore the awesomeness of this simple beauty product that you can find in your kitchen pantry : )

If you're feeling like little miss lazy bones and don't want to make the hair rinse, try this herbal cider hair rinse & clarifier by John Masters Organics. You can find it online or even at Whole Foods:
